About Us

Who is Holly Brook Farm?

Mike and Laurel Burner are the owners/operators of a small farm known as Holly Brook Farm in Berryville, VA, where they raise sheep, rabbits, broiler chickens, hogs, turkey, beef, and veal. Laurel's parents Raymond and Dorothy-Jean Chapman have a satellite farm in Edinburg, VA, where they assist in any farm projects initiated by Holly Brook. Mike has farmed all his life, from dairy to vegetables to livestock for meat production. Laurel has also farmed all her life with her parents, with dairy and sheep, hogs, and a cow/calf operation.

What We Produce

We produce all livestock with no antibiotics, added hormones, non-GMO feed, high protein forage (where applicable), rotation grazing, and selection of livestock with resistance to illness, increased growth rates on forage and good quality carcass attributes. We breed/raise Hereford and Large Black Hogs for the marbling quality in the carcasses, meat flavor growth rates, and foraging vigor.

We breed/raise Dorper and Dorper cross sheep because they do not have to be shorn, and their hardiness quality of needing only grass and hay to be sustained. We raise turkeys only seasonally on forage and non-GMO feed. Veal and baby beef are dairy and/or beef calves raised on mother's milk and grass, allowing for flavorful meat. The rabbits are Champagne D'Argent and New Zealand, and Florida Whites, yielding carcasses with flavor, large loins and hind saddles.

What We Do Best

We offer a variety high quality meats at reasonable prices (comparable to other farms markets statewide, or less). We appreciate feedback from our customers on how the products work for them and what recipes they found effective
